Week 8 Final Blog
As I approach my last week of this term, I'm excited to begin my next two classes. Term II I will be attending English Composition II and Oral Communication. I believe ENG COMP II will need my attention more than Oral Communication. English will require thinking skills and knowledge of grammar. I have done really well in English Comp I, but can expect to pick up the past for next term. However, the career goal I have as an HR Manager will require wisdom from Oral Communication as well. Communication goes a long way and has to be shown with professionalism and proper grammar. I really appreciated my English Comp I class due to what I have learned about writing papers and essays. I have never written an important paper before now. Of course in high school you must past the writing test, but it was nothing like the MLA format that was require in this course. I never knew about the type of text or font size required for important papers. English Composition will stay with me for my entire life and I will always refer back to the graded papers I have. Currently I'm not employed but on my last job I had to respond to numerous emails and proper grammar would have been extremely helpful. Just so you know Mr. Darville, this was my first time creating a blog and my first time doing a power point presentation. My son is twelve years old and told me he has done a power point at school already. I'm glad to know college will not be his first time creating a blog or a power point presentation. My knowledge from Shorter University will help me in my new career and everyday life as well.

Locations where HR Managers are in high demand/week7
After researching from City Town Info.com, I found out that there are more than one city in high demand for HR Mangers. The city with the highest demand was found to be New York, New York at
4,810. The salary for this position as of 2008 was listed as $116,830. Although New York has the highest demand, its not the highest paying city for this career. Oakland, California was listed as paying $132,580.00 a year but only has a demand of 640. Chicago has a demand of 2,630 and pays $108,230.00 a year which makes it the second location in high demand.
I wouldn't consider moving to neither location due to my son needs. My son has an agent for acting and modeling here in the Atlanta area and can not live within a 100 miles from the city of his agent. Moving wouldn't be an option even if my son wasn't under contract because we know no one in New York or Chicago. Chicago economy has took a plunge over the last few years and has become very violent. The crime rate is very high in Chicago and the city is heading for bankrupt. New York is too big for me to live and take my son to unfamiliar territory. Bullying has grown since I was a kid and being the new kid especially from a different state is even worse.
The only positive I can think of would be the salary change. It would be nice to live in California to start making the salary offered there, but it wouldn't be fair to our family to move farther away from Georgia. Most of our family lives in Augusta and Majority still reside in Florida. Our family was a little upset when my son and I moved to Atlanta, so I know they will not accept us moving to New York, Chicago, or California. I'm also not a fan of snow, I panic and have anxiety attacks when I have to drive in snow. I am aware that it snow's heavily in New York and Chicago so these two locations would definitely be a no for me to live in.

Week 6: Potential Career after my degree is earned.
As I reviewed some of the career titles earned via my degree, only one thus far stuck with me. I have a potential desire to become a HR Manager. After pulling research from using bing, I found that you must have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration to obtain such a career. Hey this falls right into my lap. I have the personality for a career as this. I have visit the HR office at my previous employer and strongly feel I can pursue this career. It was stated that the salary sits a median of 80k a year hear in Atlanta. I found some companies pay less than others for the same career. Example, the report from Glassdoor listed Hilton Worldwide has a starting pay of 37k a year as to Wrigley 88k a year. The median salary for Wrigley caught my eye because it states 116,916k a year as to Hinton's was 49,835k a year. When it gets close to the end of my 3rd year, I will re-visit the salary post before I start applying to which potential company. It was said from Google that HR Manager positions has had a 4year hiring trend. Think about it, every company has to have a HR Manager. The overall goal percentage weighted in at +16.1%

Week 5; Sucessful techniques for studying/How do you build confidence in your courses?
I have found when I take notes in modified-block style, I retain the information more and it helps me pass the test. SQ3R also helps during reading the chapter due to how the system breaks down how you study the chapter. My confidence is built each time I achieve an assignment. When I mark off an assignment as complete and the post to online button is hit, I feel great inside. Success builds confidence while you continue to the next subject. I go into each subject with confidence that I can do it and it will be done on time.

Week4 Game plan for Time Management
My "game plan" to manage my time for family, school, and personal plans is quite simple. I will always set realistic goals for each goal I need to accomplish. I have found when I complete the easiest goals first, I then have ample time for the more challenging ones. My personal task are taken care of during day time business hours. I start my workout early about seven a.m. so I have the rest of the day to complete school work and time for my son. Any priority work will be done before due date so dead line will be met. Whatever I need to cook, I take it out before leaving for my morning workout. That way, its thawed before my son comes home which gives me time to cook as he's walking in from school. There is no room for over scheduling due to I'm not working right now and one course assignments are due on Sundays as to the other course assignments are due Tue, Thur, and Saturday. This works perfectly with the goals I set. On the weekend, if I decide to go out with friends I can do so. My goals allow me to complete everything needed for school by Saturday morning.

Week 3;Career and Educational goals
My career and educational goals collaborate from one another. My educational goal is already heading in the right direction thus far. I planned to attend school for my Bachelors degree in Business Administration three years ago but never took the second step. I would always just meet with an adviser and that would be it. As I stated in my blog last week, I let my previous job stop me from going to school. Nothing is going to get in my way this time. I'm going all the way this time and not stopping til I graduate with my degree in hand.
As far as my career goal, without my degree there are no areas of opportunity. I deeply plan to use my degree to land a career in a corporate office of an established company or a credit union. Working a career job will be only temporary. At least til twenty years are up. I plan to own a few rental properties in the Buck-head area here in Atlanta. Being an Entrepreneur is what I'm more on the lines for. I have a cousin that happens to be a realtor and she currently owns a few properties. She has a fiance with a home improvement/construction company that can help with properties that may need some work. During my employment at the established company, I will gain 401k and maybe purchase some of the companies stock. This will be a pillow for me until my own business kicks off. I have a few small business ideas for the creative side of me as well. So I have a plan, and with this degree its all possible. I'm guessing fifty-six is a good age to retire and by then my properties should already be gaining revenue and I will be enjoying life.

Week 2: current job post
I am currently not working at this time so I will tell you about my most recent job. I was employed at Comcast for the last three and a half years. I started working for Comcast October 5, 2009. I don't regret my experience I endured while working there. but I certainly wish I had grounds to work in a better department. I started out as a Customer Account Executive located in Alpharetta, Ga. This particular department I handled calls for the billing department. Customer whom had billing issues or questions about their balance would be routed to me. I would pull up their account by phone number they gave and verify that I was speaking to the account holder by asking the appropriate questions. We would go over the entire statement together is necessary. I stayed in this department for one year and transferred to Decatur, Ga. to work in the repair department.
Moving to the repair department brought me closer to home for my drive to work. I was then driving 26 miles one way verse the 54 mile drive to Alpharetta. In this department you basically assist customers over the phone with problems with there service ex.(no picture on TV). I stayed in this department for a year and a half. I decided I was not happy with taking calls over the phone anymore due to irate customers yelling all the time and I suffer from migraines. I then transferred to the payment center, front counter. I was still in Decatur just around the corner from the call center in what we called a cable store. Everything was great until four months after I started Comcast fired my manager and replaced her with the wicked witch from the west. They also took $1.02 per hour from my hourly pay and changed my job title from Payment center lobby rep to Sales Rep. I hate sales and never applied for sales. They made superficial goals which were hard to make(14 home phone sales in 30days). Most people don't want home phones due to cell phones and its cheaper.
Long story short, I was terminsated due to not making all the monthly goals given maybe missing one by a few. The boss started writing me up(two write ups) then I was fired May 16,2013. I wanted to attend school the entire time I was employed with Comcast, but I got too comfortable and didn't want to change my schedule. Now that I am free, what better time without any excuse to get my Bachelors in Business Administration. No more working with the little people as they say, I will be in corporate office next time.
